Where It Started

After years detailing at a Mercedes dealership, Milton Lugo went out on his own with one mobile unit and a home base in Haltom City. The first steady work came through downtown parking garages — detailing cars where people worked, while they worked. Word moved fast enough that the driveway stopped being big enough.

One Man Becomes a Team

The first hire was Raymond — still on the crew today, fifteen years later. That hire set the pattern the shop still runs on: bring someone on, then pay to have them trained. With a team behind him, Milton moved beyond individual customers into dealership and fleet accounts across the Metroplex.

Off the Road, Into a Building

Five years and five vans into running mobile, My Detail Guys opened its first shop: 1,200 square feet on Major Street. It took about six months to outgrow it. The second shop was 2,500 square feet on East Lancaster Avenue — more than double the space, and still not enough for long.

Certified, Not Self-Taught

The bigger building meant room for the work Milton actually wanted to do: paint correction. He and Raymond both went out and got certified through Recon Techs, and ceramic coating followed in 2016. That same year the discipline extended to aircraft finishes through the Flight Shield program. Those certificates still hang on the shop wall — every one of them earned on the company's own dime.

Two Trades Under One Roof

Tariq Hashmi had spent years building an upholstery operation alongside his own detailing work — finding the craftsmen, learning the trade, taking the jobs nobody else in the area wanted. Detailing and upholstery feed each other: the customer who wants paint corrected usually wants the seats handled too. In 2018 Milton and Tariq joined forces and moved into 5,000 square feet on the other side of the Lancaster complex — the third shop in four years, and the first one big enough to run both trades side by side.

The Car Wash Lesson

Looking to serve more of the community, we expanded into the car wash business. It taught us something worth more than the investment: the car wash customer and the detailing customer are two different people with two different expectations. We weren't built to be a volume generalist — our value to Fort Worth was in specialist work, done right, on vehicles people care about. We stepped back out and went all-in on detailing and upholstery instead.

Two Brands, One Stop

Both sides had grown enough to need their own identity, so My Detail Guys and My Upholstery Guys became separate brands — deliberately located right next door to each other. One trip, both trades. No driving across town to get your paint corrected and then across town again to get your seats rebuilt.

Built to Keep Up

Great work in the bay doesn't help anyone if the front of the business can't keep up with it. In 2025 we rebuilt ours: scheduling, customer records, job tracking, follow-up. The difference shows up on your end, not ours — you can book without playing phone tag, you get a straight answer on timing, and nothing falls through the cracks between the estimate and the keys back in your hand. Growth followed, and it hasn't slowed since.

Doubling Down

Demand has outgrown the building again. This summer we begin an expansion into the space next door, more than doubling our footprint to over 11,000 square feet — so we can serve more of the DFW market without ever putting a customer in a queue we can't handle.
