What Water Actually Does

Why a Flooded Car Needs the Carpet Pulled

Under every car's carpet is a thick layer of padding, and it holds water like a sponge. The carpet on top can feel dry within a day while the padding underneath stays soaked for weeks. Extraction from the top doesn't reach it. That trapped water is where mold and that flood smell come from.

Level One — Carpet Soaked From $859

Water got into the floor. We take the seats out, pull the carpet and padding, dry everything, sanitize, and apply an anti-mold treatment before a full interior detail. For cars where the water stayed below the seat cushions.

Level Two — Carpet & Seats Soaked From $1,859

Everything in Level One, plus the seat upholstery comes off so the foam underneath can dry, and the door, kick, pillar, and trunk panels come off so we can dry the padding behind them and clear clogged door drains. This is where water hides after a real flood.

We'll tell you if it isn't worth it. If water reached the dashboard or the electrical system, restoring the interior usually doesn't make sense. We inspect first and give you an honest answer — before you spend anything.

Time Matters After a Flood

How Fast Mold Grows in a Wet Car

A flooded car doesn't get better sitting in the driveway. Here's what is happening inside it while it waits.

Mold Starts in 24–48 Hours

Wet carpet and padding can start growing mold within a day or two. A closed-up car in Fort Worth heat is a warm, humid box — exactly the conditions mold needs.

Dry Carpet, Soaked Padding

The carpet surface dries fast and fools people. The padding underneath holds water against the floor pan for weeks, which is why the smell comes back after a surface cleaning.

Water Hides Behind Panels

Door panels, kick panels, and pillar panels all have padding behind them, and clogged door drains keep water trapped inside the door. None of it is visible until the panels come off.

Floodwater Isn't Clean Water

Street and creek floodwater carries mud, runoff, and bacteria into everything it touches. Drying alone doesn't fix that — the interior has to be sanitized and treated too.

Drive it in, or have it towed if it won't start. Our shop is at 6925 E Lancaster Ave, Suite A, Fort Worth.

3

4
Teardown

Seats come out and the carpet and padding are pulled. Level Two also removes seat upholstery and the door, kick, pillar, and trunk panels.

5
Dry, Sanitize, and Treat

Everything is dried completely, the interior is sanitized, and an anti-mold treatment goes on before anything goes back in.

6
Reassembly and Interior Detail

The interior goes back together and gets a full interior detail. You pick up a car that's dry, clean, and doesn't smell like a flood.

Straight Answers

Flooded Car FAQ

How much does flooded car cleanup cost in Fort Worth?

It depends on how far the water reached. Level One (water soaked the carpet and padding) is $859 for a car, $959 for a small truck or SUV, and $1,059 for a full-size SUV, van, or truck. Level Two (water soaked the seats) is $1,859, $1,959, and $2,289. We inspect the vehicle and confirm the level before any work starts. Buy now, pay later is available through Klarna, Affirm, and Afterpay.

Can a flooded car be saved?

Often, yes — when the water stayed below the dash and the car is brought in quickly. Carpet, padding, seats, and panels can be removed, dried, and treated. If water reached the dashboard or the electrical system, restoration usually isn't worth the cost, and we'll tell you that honestly instead of selling you a job.

Does insurance cover flood damage to my car?

Flood damage is typically covered under the comprehensive portion of an auto policy, but coverage varies, so check your own policy or call your insurer. We work directly with insurance adjusters — we can document the damage and walk your adjuster through the restoration scope.

Do you actually remove the seats and carpet?

Yes. Every flood restoration starts with the seats out and the carpet and padding pulled, because padding holds water under carpet that looks dry on top. Level Two goes further: seat upholstery comes off so the foam can dry, and door, kick, pillar, and trunk panels come off so we can dry behind them and clear the door drains.

How fast does mold grow in a wet car?

Mold can start growing in wet carpet and padding within 24 to 48 hours, and Fort Worth heat speeds it up. Every day a flooded car sits closed up makes the job bigger. Open the doors and windows if you can, and get it inspected as soon as possible.

Can wet car carpet be dried, or does it need to be replaced?

Most of the time it can be dried properly once it is pulled out of the car. When carpet or padding is too damaged or contaminated to save, our sister shop My Upholstery Guys replaces the car carpet, billed through us on one invoice.

My car wasn't flooded but smells musty. Which service do I need?

If the padding under your carpet is dry — a slow sunroof leak, a window left cracked in the rain, a spilled cooler — you don't need flood restoration. Our Mildew & Odor Treatment (from $299) or Mold Removal Treatment (from $499) is built on our interior detailing service with steam, odor, and mold treatments added. If we find wet padding during either one, we stop and quote Level One before any work continues.

Do you offer mobile flood cleanup?

No. Flood restoration is shop-only. Pulling seats, carpet, and panels and drying everything properly takes a controlled shop environment and time — not a few hours in a driveway. If your car won't start, have it towed to our shop at 6925 E Lancaster Ave, Suite A, Fort Worth.
